Overview
Alzheimer’s disease refers to a neurological condition. In this condition the death of brain cells causes memory loss and cognitive decline. It is a type of dementia, and mostly effects people aged 65 years and above.
Causes
Alzheimers disease is believed to be caused by the abnormal build-up of proteins in and around brain cells. The causes may also include age-related changes in the brain as well as genetic and lifestyle factors.
Symptoms
The symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease often get worse with time. The major syptom of this disease is memory loss. Other signs may include:
• Memory loss which may lead to losing things, repeating questions or conversations and wandering or getting lost
• Cognitive deficits which may lead to difficulty with money or paying bills and difficulty making decisions
• Problems with recognition
• Problems with spatial awareness
• Speaking, reading, or writing issues
• Personality or behavior changes
