When to see a Gastroenterologist

The health of our digestive system is very important. If you notice these signs, it may be time to see a gastroenterologist:

  1. Diarrhea.

If you have diarrhea and your stool is mostly liquid, you may have IBS, SIBO, or IBD. See a gastroenterologist to get help.

  1. Constipation.

Constipation may be because of IBS or muscular dystrophy. GI specialists can help you find out what the cause of your constipation is.

3. Frequent Heartburn.

If you experience heartburn very often, you may have GERD. GERD is an illness that can damage the esophagus. It can cause ulcer, problems swallowing, and esophageal cancer.

  1. Unusual Bloating

Bloating is usually no matter for concern, but if severe, can be a sign of IBS or SIBO. Contact a GI doctor to get help.

5. Severe Bellyaches

Pain that lasts for hours and is sudden is not normal. This is a sign of ulcer, gallstones, pancreatitis, and liver disease. A GI specialist can help you find the reason behind your pains.

6. Blood in Stool

If you see blood in your stool, and it isn’t being cured by home remedies, you may have colorectal cancer. This cancer causes severe abdominal pain, diarrhea, low iron levels and weight loss.
